Rafting in KZN

This takes place on the Umzimkulu river, just outside Port Shepstone (only 1 ½ hrs from Durban) on the KZN south coast.

The Umzimkulu River has mainly grade 1 and grade 2 rapids, but also boasts a couple of Grade 3 rapids, which step-up to Grade 4 if there's been sufficient rain. The section is regarded as one of the biggest traversable Whitewater south of the Zambezi.

A typical rafting day would be as follows :

Meet at Wild 5 offices at the Oribi Gorge Hotel (12kms from Port Shepstone) at 8.30am.

On arrival make final payment, sign indemnities, and gear up for an epic trip.

Then travel 8 kms upstream where we will do a safety briefing and get on the river by 9.30am in our inflatable boats – either the self-paddling 2-man Crocs or the bigger 7-man rafts.

We will then start the trip downstream where you will encounter no less than 8 class 1, 2 & 3 rapids

We will paddle approx. 8kms on the river, with a refreshment break half way, which will include 1 x water, 1 x Powerade, 1 x chocolate per person.

Once completed we will drive you back (on a 4x4 trail) to Wild 5 / Oribi Gorge Hotel, giving you approx. 2 1/2 hours on the river.

Other activities on site include The Wild Slide, Abseiling, Paint ball and hiking trails, and our “WORLD FAMOUS – WILD SWING, which is the HIGHEST GORGE SWING in the WORLD at 165m high

The Oribi Gorge Hotel is on the same premises as Wild 5 Adventures, for your lunch and refreshment needs.

R200 Deposit required to book your place. Bookings and deposits are required at least 2 days prior to your trip.
